Classes for Adults

(NB. It is usually possible to join an advance booking class up to 4 weeks into the term, just contact us to discuss.) Classes are all for ages 16+ unless otherwise stated.

Ballet

Beginners (A) Tues 5.15 – 6.15pm; Improvers (D) Tues 6.15 – 7.30pm, both at Citymoves
Tutor: Emma Sinclair
These classes range from an introduction to the basics of classical ballet (Beginners) to challenging barre and centre work (Improvers).

Bellydance

(A) Thu 6 – 7pm, Citymoves
Tutor: Sarah Dyce
Explore the exotic art of Egyptian bellydancing. Have fun and improve your confidence in these sociable and enjoyable classes. (Women only)

Contemporary

(D) Beginners Mon 6 – 7pm HMT Studio; Improvers Wed 6.30 – 7.30pm, Citymoves
Tutor: Beginners – Various, Improvers – Alison Macbeth
Contemporary dance develops fluidity, co-ordination and enjoyment of movement. Alison’s teaching style draws on her background of Cunningham, Limon and classical ballet techniques. This style of dance is difficult to describe so the best thing to do is come along and try it!

Creative Movement

(A) Thu 12.30 – 1.30pm, Citymoves
Tutor: Ruth Kent / Amy Park
Creative Dance Session for adults with learning difficulties. These sessions are inclusive and carers must participate in the session. Carers places free but please contact us to confirm your place. Can be paid weekly but commitment is expected.

Elementz Contemporary Creative

(A) Wed 7.30 – 9.15pm, Citymoves
Tutor: Alison Macbeth
A creative session, including a mixture of learnt sequences and creative tasks, which will be brought together into a piece of choreography to be shown at the end of term. Previous dance experience needed. This class is paid as a block and commitment in expected.

Fit to Dance (50+)

(D) Tues 2.15 – 3.15pm; Wed 11.15am – 12.15pm, both at Citymoves
Tutor: Hazel Cameron
Dance and exercise class using rhythms from a variety of dance styles including Latin, Tango and Jazz.

Hip Hop

(A) Mon 7 – 8pm, HMT Studio
Tutor: Mark Cameron
An exciting and energetic open level Hip Hop class. Improve your confidence, fitness and basic dance co-ordination, and learn many of the moves seen in modern urban music videos.

Irish

(D) Beginners Thu 7 – 8pm, Improvers Thu 8-9pm, both at Citymoves
Tutor: Kristina Harrison
Follow in the steps of Riverdance or Prodijig. Learn the basic steps including jumps, hops, sevens, skips and crosses, and put them together to make fun individual and group dances. Bring soft dance shoes if you have them, but socks or bare feet are also fine.

Jazz Music Video

(D) Tues 8.30 – 9.30pm, Citymoves
Tutor: Innis Robertson / Mark Cameron
Learn a fun and funky routine each week, and dance like you’re on MTV.

Jazz Technique

(D) Tues 7.30 – 8.30pm, Citymoves
Tutor: Innis Robertson / Mark Cameron
Focusing on technique, these classes will improve your strength, flexibility and musicality.

Mature Moves (50+)

(D) Wed 10 – 11am, Citymoves
Tutor: Hazel Cameron
Gentle exercise, movement & dance class for the over 50s. This class is not currently accepting new members.

Musical Theatre

(A) Mon 8 – 9pm, HMT Studio
Tutor: Mark Cameron
Get a great work out while learning amazing routines to hit Broadway and West End shows. Work on your turns, kicks and different musical theatre dance styles

Pilates

(D) Wed 5.30 – 6.30pm, Citymoves
Tutor: Laura Murray
Returning to Citymoves, Pilates is a body-conditioning technique designed to stretch, strengthen and balance the body. Excellent for improving posture, strength and flexibility and aligning the body correctly, Pilates also teaches co-ordination, concentration and control.

Quicksilver (50+)

(A) Thu 1.30 – 3pm, Citymoves
Tutor: Ruth Kent
Fun contemporary group for the over 50s using improvisation and themes to create new pieces and work towards performances. Commitment is expected. This class is free to anyone who already attends one of our 50+ classes, otherwise £6.75 a week. ..

RRR (50+)

Revitalise, Rejuvenate & Relax; a sociable and enjoyable dance class for over 50s.

Step Forward

(A) Fri 6 – 8pm, Citymoves
Tutor: Ruth Kent
An integrated dance performance group for people with and without learning difficulties.

Salsa

(A) Mondays 8.30 – 9.30pm, Citymoves
Tutor: Ergun Karasalih
Feel the South American rhythms and learn to dance Salsa. Great exercise and a fantastic way to meet new friends. You don’t have to bring a partner.

Tap

(D) Thu 11.30am – 12.30pm, Citymoves
Tutor: Audrey Fraser
Get those toes a-tappin’ with these fun sessions, great for developing rhythm. Open to all levels, but some tap experience is expected.

Yoga

(D) Tues 12 – 1pm and 1 – 2pm, Citymoves
Tutor: Fiona Bochel
A gentle approach to improving your fitness, energy levels & well-being. Theses lunchtime sessions will help you to build strength, focus and flexibility.
